Okay so you may be wondering.. 'What is a digital native?' Well, if you are about 25 years or younger its probably safe to say that you are a digital native, also known as a person who has grown up in our current digital age where computers are an everyday normal object that you use. Even kids as young as 20 months old are beginning to use computers with complete ease. If you look on Youtube you can find many videos of kids as they use computers. Meet baby Roland, at the age of 20 months old he uses he internet to play his games on The Disney Website.
Our parents grew up in school not having a computer to use whenever they wanted. We have it easy....
If they had a computer then... this is probably what it looked like....
For me however I grew very much so as a TRUE Digital Native. At a very young age, about 4 years old, I was already using the computer and playing games and such. By the age of 7 I could do just about anything on the computer, at that time we had dial-up internet which was always a pain... **phone rings** "Oh crap" then Xanga came along when i was about 11, it was like a blog for younger audiences, it required html codes for things such as layouts, headers, fonts, not long after by about 11-12 years old I could change all the html codes to change everything to how I liked it, change the background, font, color scheme.. and id figure out how to chug things like this in something that would look something like this:
</script><style id=gstyle>body{margin:0;overflow-y:scroll}#gog{padding:3px 8px 0}.gac_m td{line-height:17px}form{margin-bottom:20px}body,td,a,p,.h{font-family:arial,sans-serif}.h{color:#36c;font-size:20px}.q{color:#00c}.ts td{padding:0}.ts{border-collapse:collapse}em{font-weight:bold;font-style:normal}.lst{height:25px;width:496px}.ds{display:inline-block;display:-moz-inline-box}span.ds{border-bottom:solid 1px #e7e7e7;border-right:solid 1px
This gibberish just seemed to make sence to me, I could change it however I liked, it became something to do in my spare time, I started a small layout Xanga for other users where they could request certain things. I ran the page till Xanga was replaced with Facebook which I was one of the first of my friends to have. Since then I have kept my Facebook, but I also use things like formspring, Picnik, Tinypic, Youtube, Hulu, and other sites regularly, an am currently using Hulu to watch a show I love, called Lie to Me.
